ALPIQ InTec AG is a leading Swiss electricity and energy services provider with a European focus. Covering a broad spectrum of energy supply services, supplemented by all the services for energy and building technology.

Employee engagement is an important part of the ALPIQ HR team's efforts. In order to
maintain a highly productive workforce it is needed to evaluate employee engagement through feedback. Asking the right questions at the right time is what it is all about. Understanding and improving employee engagement goes beyond a questionnaire and a report; it's a long-term relationship. “Nurturing the people that work with you in your organisation doesn't have to require expensive perks. It's simply about motivating, engaging and listening".

Challenge

In order to communicate with more than 4,500 employees, Michelle Berchtold the HR manager at Alpiq InTec AG was looking for a platform that would allow her to gather feedback from the company's 4,500 remote workers, whilst maintaining a personal connection.

The challenge Michelle had prior to Upinion was how she could involve employees to create a culture of engagement. This had to be done with workers that work primarily outdoors where their job does not require them to be in front a desktop. Michelle used a combination of research tools, such as email and online surveys. But those resulted in very low response rates.

Solution

“We were constantly switching context and tools to support our remote working employees; We quickly came to the realisation that these employees had their mobile
phone on them at all times because they had to be easily reachable."

Upinion provided the perfect opportunity to ignite engagement by empowering our employees to share stories, exchange ideas, and disseminate best practices using their mobile devices and responding to questions in the moment. We could now send out an ‘employee engagement’ survey that would arrive on their mobile devices the moment we send it. Push notifications work great when it comes to trigger action.

Upinion helps us scale our HR research and gives us a more personal approach compared to standard surveys.

Result

"We looked at many solutions in the past" says Michelle, Upinion however, offered several key advantages: an easy, intuitive chat like interface, which was familiar for users and most importantly works perfectly on mobile devices.

The lower barrier to entry makes completing a survey a breeze. By using Upinion we have increased employee feedback by 70%. The survey data then can be exported and easily reviewed, which allows each of our business units to implement the feedback in order to create a better working culture.

“One of the best things about Upinion is that with a few clicks anyone in our team can create a conversation. Also, with the conversation being a two way dialogue instead of a one-off questionnaire it helps us shape our HR efforts"
