You can create a multilingual conversation by adding more languages to your conversation and providing your own translations. With a single conversation, you can reach everyone in the language they're most comfortable with—and analyse all your results together as a single data set.

You can find the Translation options in your conversation settings:

  1. Create a new conversation

  2. Click on Settings and you will find it under Translation

Their are two different translation file types. One is the Default language file  and the other is the specific Language file. The default language file  contains the keys and default language and is also called a Terms file . The terms file helps you understand which translation is connected to which question or question option. A Language file  contains the translations for the questions and questions options for a specific language.

Adding a language

Easily add a language to your choose by pressing the Add language  button.

Note: Currently we only support languages that are supported by our mobile apps. Please contact us if you want to have a new language added.

Translating a conversation

After adding a new language you can download and upload a .json file per language.

Opening the json File

The translation file is in JSON format (with .json file extension), which is often used in specialized translation software to maintain translations on multilingual websites.

Use translation software

You can use a text editor to open the file or use a translation software like Transifex or Poedit to translate the JSON file in a more user-friendly interface. From there you can export the translated JSON file, and upload it back into Upinion. These tools offer more collaboration and status tracking features that make it easier to translate large-scale projects.

Understanding the different JSON Files

When you open the PO file in a text editor, you'll see a lot of code—but don't worry! You don't need to know how to code in order to translate the file.

Terms file

You can download the terms file in Default language . This is an example of how the default language file looks like:

{"18567-46304":"Less than 1 month","18567-46305":"1 to 6 months","18567-46306":"6 months to 1 year","18567-46307":"1 to 2 years","18567-46308":"2 years or more","18567-46309":"I never used [product]","18567-question":"How long have you used [product]?"}

Language file

After added a new language. You can download the translation. This how an empty new Dutch language file looks like:

{"18567-46304":"","18567-46305":"","18567-46306":"","18567-46307":"","18567-46308":"","18567-46309":"","18567-question":""}

As you can see the keys (like 18567-46304) correspond with the terms file. Also they are unique and the same in all the language files you use for this conversation.

You can of course manually replace the empty string

"18567-46304":""

with a translation like this

"18567-46304":"Minder dan 1 maand"

After you have translated all the questions and answer options you can upload the JSON file back into Upinion.

Upload and enable a language

You can easily upload your updated  translation JSON file by clicking on Upload button.

Note: If not everything is translated it will show a percentage less then 100%.

Next step is to activate the languages you wish to use and press the Save  button.
